Newport Hospital Raises $5 Million, Breaks Ground on New Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit

Newport Hospital has reached a significant fundraising milestone as it moves closer to realizing a specialized Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit. Thanks to the generosity of donors, Newport Hospital has exceeded $5 million raised for the project. Given the significant progress of fundraising efforts, construction has commenced earlier than expected.

Gratitude at Newport Hospital:
A Daughter’s Love, A Mother’s Legacy

Just before Christmas in 2021, Martha Hunnewell contracted COVID. She quickly developed serious complications and, sadly, passed away a few short weeks later. She was 77. For her daughter, Alicia Van Arsdall, the loss was devasting. “My mother’s passing was horribly painful and unexpected,” she explains, “but the care she received at Newport Hospital, particularly from the hardworking nursing staff in the ICU, was incredible and heartwarming.”

Aquidneck Island Youth Programs Receive $150,000 in 2024 Grants, 2025 Application Available Soon

Newport Hospital, through its Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund, has given a funding boost to a wide array of island programs that serve local children. In total, the hospital awarded $150,000 in grants to 27 organizations that help kids lead healthier lives through physical activity, education, and healthy choices.

The “Powered by Prince” grants, which range from $2,000 to $11,000, support a diverse assortment of interests; everything from biking, baseball and scouting, to nature, dance, sailing, and surfing – all delivered by Newport County nonprofits.
