Day of Giving Raises More Than $435,000

Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children’s presented the fifth annual Day of Giving on Wednesday, September 10. The daylong radio-telethon, a partnership with NBC 10 WJAR and Cumulus Media Providence, gave the hospitals an opportunity to highlight their world-class care, share inspiring patient stories, and raise funds to support their lifesaving work.

Rhode Island Hospital’s Burn Center
Earns Reverification

Rhode Island Hospital has once again been reverified as a Burn Center by the American Burn Association (ABA). The prestigious designation is awarded only to burn centers that meet the highest standards of care, from initial treatment through long-term rehabilitation. The distinction also reaffirms our position as the only hospital in New England verified as a burn center, a comprehensive stroke center, and a Level 1 Trauma Center for both adults and children.

Innovative Brain Surgery Saves 23-Year-Old’s Life

Last summer, Anuj Swaminathan was knocked out during a sparring session in the ring. A precautionary MRI shortly after showed no lingering damage from the punch. However, it did reveal an unrelated brain tumor, which led the 23-year-old boxer to undergo an innovative surgery at Rhode Island Hospital. In this video, Anuj looks back on his decision to remain in Rhode Island for his treatment, the significant deficits he has overcome to be where he is today, and why he agreed to be awake during parts of his delicate, complicated surgery.
