Bradley Hospital celebrates end of summer

Bradley Hospital Celebrates End of Summer

As summer drew to a close, the Bradley Hospital Creative Expressions Committee presented its annual “Summer Bash” for kids who have spent much of their summer vacation in treatment. Patients and staff from programs across the hospital joined in the fun that included a water slide, obstacle course and yard games, a surfing photo booth, splatter painting, face painting, and of course, watermelon, popcorn, and ice cream. For the staff, watching the joy of childhood shine through some tough times is a real ray of sunshine, and one of the many reasons they stay committed to the work through every season.

The staff-driven Creative Expressions Committee raises funds to support two major annual events for patients, as well as festive seasonal activities for both patients and staff throughout the year.

Create a calming corner

Creating a Calming Corner:
A Simple Way to Help Kids Feel Better

A Brown University Health Blog by Alicia Ead, LICSW

More and more children are dealing with strong emotions like stress, sadness, and anger. In fact, about one in five children have a mental health challenge. Many kids feel overwhelmed and don’t know how to handle their feelings. This can make it hard to learn, make friends, or feel good about themselves.

Schools, homes, and communities can help by creating Calming Corners—small, safe spaces where kids can calm down, think, and feel better. These spaces don’t replace professional help, but they give children a chance to take a break and return to their day feeling more in control.
